A lecture on debating skills and a debate showcase were held for the upper primary pupils to provide exposure and to generate interest in debate amongst the pupils.
Outstanding debating teams from Hwa Chong Institution and Raffles Institution were invited to lock horns on the motion – This House will abolish examinations in Singaporean Primary Schools.
The usual debate format was tweaked to allow pupils from the audience to cross examine the speakers after each round of speeches. This proved to be most fruitful as the long queue of pupils waiting at the microphones after each round to comment on or to question the debaters.
The event was a great success. The favourable response from pupils bears testimony to the great interest and enthusiasm generated amongst the pupils.
